Accessibility in Education: Our Recent Project at American University in the Emirates (AUE)

At Tactiles.ae, we believe that inclusive design isn’t a feature—it’s a foundation. We were recently honored to be part of a prestigious upgrade project at the American University in the Emirates, one of Dubai’s top academic institutions. Located in the heart of Academic City, the university boasts a vibrant campus, and now, even greater accessibility for students and faculty with visual impairments.

Our project involved the supply and expert installation of stainless steel tactile warning studs throughout key zones of the university. These included:
- Outdoor tactile pads at the parking entrance, to safely guide pedestrians from the street to building access points.
- Indoor tactile indicators at the base and top of staircases, helping those with limited vision navigate multi-level buildings confidently.
One of the standout features of this project was the elegant 45-degree arc installation on the curved staircase landings. Our engineers mapped and aligned each stud with precision to ensure both visual harmony and functional guidance. This not only meets compliance but adds a subtle design appeal to the space.

Why are tactile indicators so important in educational settings?
- They create independent navigation paths for visually impaired students and visitors.
- They contribute to the institution’s commitment to accessibility and compliance with international standards.
- They enhance safety in high-traffic zones like stairs and entrances.
As the demand for inclusive design grows, we are proud to support schools, universities, and public spaces in creating environments where everyone can move with confidence.
